Dinophiles, celebrate!

A new prehistoric creature is on the scene. Found in the north African country of Morocco, the species is named Spinosaurus mirabilis – which means wonderful.

According to a paper published in February in Science magazine, Spinosaurus was a large genius of theropod dinosaurs that lived primarily in Morocco, Algeria and Egypt more than 100 million years ago.

These large semi-aquatic dinosaurs are famous for their sails and crocodile-like jaws. Experts say the creature’s crest was sheathed in keratin, brightly colored and curved toward the sky as a blade-shaped beacon.

The crest on the dinosaur’s head must have been used for attraction. The scimitar-shaped crest of Spinosaurus mirabilis was so large, that the paleontologists initially didn’t recognize it.

Due to these amazing features, it’s being called one of the most astonishing discoveries found in Africa. Replica of the Spinosaurus skill and crest are on display as part of the Dinosaur Expedition at the Chicago Children’s Museum.
