A 1980s-themed dance will take eighth-graders back to the future.
The third annual dance begins during sixth period on May 15, in the cafeteria. To participate, scholars must have no major or minor infractions and fewer than five tardies starting from April 1.
“The eighth-graders have made it through three years of middle school,” dance organizer and history teacher Tracy Newman said. “So, an eighth-grade dance is a really big deal for them.”
Newman said that she expects one of the largest attendances of all the dances.
“Last year we had around 200 eighth graders total and we probably had 175 or so at the dance,” Newman said. “This year we have almost 240.”
The 80s theme was popular from the start, according to scholars.
“I feel like it’s very relevant to our grade because our eighth grade dance theme is the 80s and since we’re like the eighth grade, the 80s it makes sense,” eighth grade student Ai Vy La said.
For the eighth-graders, the dance marks one of the final moments they will have with their peers.
“It’s going to be like one last celebration until we’re all gone for high school,” eighth-grader Juliet Navas said.
