When it comes to algebra, Trojans are the masters of the order of operations in Pinellas County.
A JHop team recently claimed first and second place in a showdown with other middle school scholars at the 4th Annual TZ Algebra Bowl at Meadowlawn Middle School.
The Algebra Bowl is a competitive, team-based event where scholars use algebra and geometry to solve problems within a limited amount of time.
“It felt really good to win because it was a big surprise for us. We all get to move on to the next round and I personally feel great,” eighth-grader Charlotte Brass said.
Trojans returned to campus to cheers of applause from a group of scholars in the foyer quickly assembled by Principal Brittnee Scott.
“It feels amazing winning, I even cried,” team coach and math teacher Diana Wolff said.
Eighth-grader Ibrahim Lollis said the team was taken by surprise by the reception when they returned.
“I didn’t expect everyone to cheer when we got back,” he said. “I thought they would be in class.”
Brass concurred.
“It’s a really great surprise,” she said. “Before, we had made a joke that they would cheer us on when we got back then when we got here and we saw pom poms and people.”
