JHop’s flag football season is around the corner, and the boys’ team coach, JHop School Resource Officer Radhames Gonzalez, is looking for disciplined players ready to hit the ground running.
Tryouts start next week, and the regular season officially begins on March 30. The tryouts will be held on March 10 – March 11 from 4:30-6:00 p.m. Potential players are asked to arrive at tryouts dressed in loose athletic attire.
Coach Gonzalez said that he is looking for players of all skill levels to try out for the team. He said that prior football knowledge is not important, but being a team player is.
“I’m looking for speed, agility, being able to catch the ball and, most importantly, discipline,” Gonzalez said.
Flag football is designed to teach football skills to athletes while the team progresses through the regular season and potentially a district playoff run. The team will play eight games this season, on Wednesdays or Saturdays.
The program requires players to have Pinellas County Schools athletic insurance and a current physical form on file.
According to Gonzalez, the team can only have up to 15 players. Scholars, if you want to be on the team, you must be willing to show up and show out.
