The Christmas season is here, and popular video games such as Fortnite, Terraria and Minecraft are celebrating with festive events.
Games like Fortnite, Terraria and Minecraft have annual holiday-themed activities, ranging from major events to smaller seasonal updates. Steam is also offering massive sales on nearly every game, allowing players to try popular titles at lower prices.
During Christmas, Fortnite hosts a winter event called Winterfest. The event functions like an advent calendar, giving players different items each day, such as skins, wraps and other cosmetics. The entire map is decorated with snow and holiday-themed objects, and players can participate in festive quests and challenges.
Terraria features a seasonal event called Frost Moon. During the event, the moon transforms into a snowman head, and players face 15 waves plus five bonus waves of enemies. Each enemy defeated adds to a “kill score,” and reaching a certain score unlocks the next wave. Players earn items and a pet once the event ends at dawn in the game.
Minecraft does not have a dedicated Christmas event but releases holiday-themed cosmetics, maps and custom items, along with texture updates. In the past, the game hosted “12 Days of Minecraft,” offering free cosmetic items for players’ skins daily for 12 days leading up to Christmas.
Holiday events provide an opportunity for games to attract new players and bring back lapsed ones through free items, cosmetics or festive experiences.
