The iconic Broadway show “Hamilton” celebrates its 10-year anniversary with a revival – at the movie theater.
That’s right, since Sept. 5th, Hamilton fans have been able to relive the movie’s songs and scenes, sparking a new phenom that lovers of “The Rocky Horror Picture Show” have experienced for decades: a sing-along.
Hamilton is about the story of a lesser-known founding father of America. Born in the Caribbean island of Nevis, Hamilton was a statesman and military officer who was an orphan by his early teens. The play highlights his life’s journey from arriving to the American colonies up to his death in a famous duel with another founding father, Aaron Burr.
The concept didn’t seem very interesting the first time I heard of it, but the songs and characters pull it together, making it a must watch on the big screen and with a crowd.
As a huge Hamiton fan, I was excited to see it opening weekend. My friends, Aurora and Kaylyn – also JHOP students – joined me for the fun.
We wore our school uniforms but at theater, we saw others dressed as the Statue of Liberty or other characters from the musical, adding to the excitement. Everyone sang along to the songs, especially “My Shot” and “Best of Wives and Best of Women.”
The movie has some special features, like a prologue called “Reuniting the Revolution” that includes new interviews from the original cast and creators. It was interesting because it gave us insight into how much impact the show has had on the cast’s lives.
It was exciting to see the original cast talking about the day the show was first performed on Broadway.
The theatrical release is the same version that’s on Disney+ but the former provides the new experience of immersing people into the show. The movie experience can allow fans like us to dress up to sing along to their favorite songs, making it feel brand new to us superfans.
Seeing Hamilton in theaters is a great for anyone to enjoy the show for the first time or in a different way.
