Scholars and teachers have mixed reactions to class schedule changes at John Hopkins.
This school year, the schedule switched from 80-minute block to the standard seven periods that are 45 minutes each.
Both teachers and scholars offered their opinions to the JHop Times on this new system.
“I miss the block schedule, I miss having enough time to really dig into things and spend more time on stuff,” said Mrs. Newman, who teaches history. “But I like seeing my students every day.”
Eighth grader, Ryann Dion said she misses the extra time in the classroom.
“I’m upset we don’t have as much time to learn as we did,” she said.
Margret Heveron, also an eighth grader, concurred.
“We have to do more work at home and then in class because we have less time,” she said.
District officials believe having every class will help students remember class material a lot better and help teachers keep teaching consistently, according to the Pinellas County Schools website.
Every schedule has ups and downs but according to The University of People, studies have shown lower test scores from students with block schedule than students with each class every day.
