A big, red fire truck is always an attention-getter and that certainly was true when it recently appeared on the JHop campus for the Great American Teach-In.
Firefighters from St. Petersburg Fire Rescue came to campus to talk with scholars about their career.
Scholars got the chance to see up close firefighter gear and equipment, which included extinguishers, hoses, radars and fire suits. The firefighters also explained the medical equipment for different ages and scenarios such as car crashes and heart attacks.
Firetrucks hold 500 gallons of water, which equals an astonishing 4,000 pounds.
The trucks also are outfitted with communications equipment that keeps firefighters in touch with the operators. The truck also has specialized seats so firefighters can get dressed on the way to a fire.
