The 31st Annual Tampa Am skateboarding competition takes place this week at the world-famous Skate Park of Tampa (SPoT).
Tampa Am features amateur skateboarders looking make their name in skating history.
Any skater can enter Tampa Am and those who qualify compete against the best amateurs the world has to offer. Tampa Am winners could get signed and compete at the highest level. They may get the chance to compete against the best pros at the annual Tampa Pro event in April.
Tampa Am started off in 1995 as a small local competition. According to SPoT, it has grown over the past 30 years as more skate legends like Donny Barley, Nyjah Huston, and Dashawn Jordan have participated. And just three years ago, the legendary Tony Hawk made an appearance. As more skaters brought attention to Tampa Am and Tampa Pro, they became two of the most popular skate events in the world.
Last year’s winner, Juni Kang, won by a skillful run where he landed a nollie 270 heelflip. Some other skaters that made it far in the finals were Taiga Nagai and Gunjo Shij.
