JHop recently welcomed a new assistant principal on campus.
James M. Wilbour joined the campus after Mr. Frascatore’s departure in August.
Mr. Wilbour started his teaching career in Pinellas County schools in 2019, but his education career spans farther back.
“I’ve always believed that education has the power to change lives, and I was drawn to education because, I wanted to be part of that impact,” he said.
From 1993 to 2002, he served as a substance abuse prevention task coordinator, a dean of academic affairs and criminal justice program coordination at Keiser University.
From 2003 to 2008, he was the director of education at the Central Florida Institute from 2008 to 2010, an academic dean at Lincoln technical institute from 2011 to 2016, and a professional education coordinator at USF from 2016 to 2018.
Most recently, he was a classroom teacher at Hollins High School.
“I was ready to make a jump from teacher to administration, and it seemed like a great opportunity to do that,” Mr. Wilbur said on making the jump from higher education to K12.
Mr. Wilbour said his goal for the school is to boost the school grade from a B to an A.
“We want to continue to create a culture of high expectations and strong relationships and create those opportunities here at Hopkins, and I think that can be done,” he said.
