Some JHop math students celebrated Pi Day in a special way: by smothering Principal Carlmon Jones in the face with shaving cream!
Pi Day is March 14 because when the date is written numerically (3-1-4), it matches the first three digits of pi. Pi represents the ratio of a circle’s circumference to its diameter.
The day often involves eating pie and taking part in math-related activities.
Dressed in a poncho and wearing goggles, Jones happily took part in the fun as students lined up to pitch a pie at him.
“I bet you can’t pie me,” said Mr. Jones.
He kept teasing scholars by saying “you missed,” to those who did not hit him.
But later, he found that some students were good at hitting a target.
“Some kids had better aim than I thought,” he said.
He later admitted that some had better aim than her originally believed.
Seventh grader Asha Howard and sixth grader Jamorion Davis said they were excited to be in the blue courtyard where all the action was taking place.
Ms. Clarkston, one of the math teachers who organized the event, says about six cans of shaving cream were used.
Faculty and staff who also took part in the event include Mr. Green, Mr. Jeremy, Mr. Adam and Ms. Nakai.
